Q: Why does the sound break up? The video isn't playing correctly.
A: There is a note posted under the featured video stating that you may need to pause the video to let it load to the player. If the sound is breaking while the
video is attempting to play, just hit the pause button. After the video loads to the player, it will play correctly.
Q: I have a new computer and my dial-up connection takes forever to load the video. Why is this happening?
A: PolkaVideos.com is optimized for broadband users. A new computer will not be much help with a dial-up connection as a video could take several hours to load to
the player on dial-up. A broadband connection will only take a few minutes.
Q: Why does the video and sound break up even though I have broadband?
A: Broadband has various speeds. If there is an issue, please hit the pause button for a few moments.
Q: Why do you have ads on polkavideos?
A: The ads are intended to offset the licensing, bandwidth, hosting and domain fees.
Q: Aren't you making money off of polkavideos?
A: No, absolutely not. PolkaVideos does not make a penny. We spend quite a bit of our own money to make polkavideos a reality.
Q: Then why do you do a donation drive once a year?
A: To date, we've done one donation drive. This was done to offset the original licensing fees. Donations received were actually less than licensing fees that
were paid for the first year of operation. That means the balance of the licensing fees and all other costs were funded out of our own pocket.
Q: Shouldn't you be paying the artists money if you're receiving donations?
A: We report the donations to the licensing agencies and a percentage of those donations are passed onto the registered composers.
Q: Why did you remove so many videos?
A: We removed videos of songs composed and registered by one artist. We were paying that artist for two quarters when they demanded more money. Since we
already reported and paid a percentage of donations to the licensing agency, paying more in excess of our license agreement was out of the question.
Q: Do bands receive bookings through polkavideos?
A: Nobody has come to polkavideos directly to hire a band. We are aware of one festival that hired the majority of the bands after viewing them on polkavideos.
We also are in contact with a few websites and agencies that do consider the bands on our site from time to time for bookings.
Q: If you book a band that is on your site, do you get paid for it?
A: Polkavideos.com is not an agent and does not take money if it links an artist with a booking. We are glad to assist the polka community by promoting the bands.
Q: Do you sell DVDs?
A: No, we do not sell DVDs.
Q: How can I get a copy of a DVD?
A: While we understand your desire for a DVD, we couldn't possibly send videos to everyone that wanted them. That's why videos are available for viewing on the website.
Q: Why don't you just use youtube?
A: When videos go on youtube, the person uploading them agrees to hand over all copyright claims to youtube. The person uploading the video also indicates that they
are the copyright owner who gives youtube the rights to the work. Since we are not the composers of the music, we cannot in good faith state we own the copyright as so
many do.
Q: Who cares about copyright, everyone is putting videos on youtube.
A: We care. We care about the music and we care how it is treated. We do our best in protecting musical compositions.
